Writer's Block: Forbidden Reading
Oct. 19th, 2008 07:54 pm[Error: unknown template qotd]I cannot remember ever having to hide books from my moms. They were pretty accepting of anything I wanted to read. There were times when they would read the book first and then let me read it, but that's all they can remember. My father, on the other hand, hated most of the books I read--he found them inappropriate for a girl. So I would purposely read them in front of him to annoy him (yes I was an evil child.)
I can remember one incident though, when I was in fifth grade, when my mother got called in for a parent conference. I was reading in class. (Horrors!)
My mother said "Isn't this a reading class?"
"Well, yes."
"Is she completing her work?"
"Yes."
"Is she bothering the other students?"
"No."
"Is she causing any trouble?"
"No."
"Then LEAVE HER ALONE!"
Gotta love the stupidity of the school system I grew up in.
