Blog Fail

So I apparently really fail at keeping three blogs up and running...and since this is the one that I use the least...yeah. I'm not going to delete it, but since I last checked this in December (and that was just to post 'does anyone want a card'?) I'm gonna go with...I don't use this.

If you want to keep in touch with me...or have been wondering where in Hades I am...I do still have an eljay (for those of you that don't already have it) over at [livejournal.com profile] shanachie_quill although I don't do much other than fic writing and graphics there. Once in a while I will put a life update in there. If ya just want to drop me a line I check medievalgirl@writing.com the most and I am sorta on twitter (yes I succumbed...bite me) medie13 although I seem to be on it in spurts--most often on weekends.

There's a couple of people that I do wanna keep in touch with or re-connect with so I'll tag you within a few days if I don't hear from you.

Cross posted from my other journal...

How well do you know my viewing/reading preferences?

I have...

...an actual update that I am working on...but it's reaching epic proportions and I wanted to share the links to a friend's journal. On Fridays she posts pictures from our military units...some cute, some touching...and I just wanted to share the links to her last two so y'all can see them if ya want.

Also for some reason LJ is being particularly stubborn and will only let me go back 27 entries on my friends' list so if there is anything in the last oh I dunno...three months or so that y'all think I particularly need to see...send me a link? I've been bad about checking here.

Just posting this for my sister...and at some point I'll post an update...but I've got too much in my head and going on to think it through right now.

What's he up to now? Gary Sinise
shanachie13: (writing)
So Ransom and I were emailing back and forth today as I tried to write up the welcome for her stop at my blog. I had seen that everyone else wrote how they knew her or how they met her...and I realized I can't remember. *face palm* But then I decided this wasn't as bad as it sounds. Since part of the reason I can't remember is because I feel like I've known Ransom forever. We both belong to a little group on-line called WDC and I know we met through that.
She believes that we met because one or the other of us did a review for the other (I think she did one for me) sometime after she joined the site in January of 2007. After that we began emailing back and forth and a friendship began to build from there.

Since then, Ransom has become a mentor to me and we have supported each other as we strive towards publication. I couldn't be prouder or happier for her that she reached that goal. So I was pleased when she asked me to be part of her blog tour and introduce her book to y'all.

(Personally I wanted to make up a really cool meeting for us and was all set to rack my brain--or actually put my brain on the rack, but apparently I'm not allowed to do that.)

(I never said you weren’t allowed to do that. How about we met in London on a Jack the Ripper tour? What, too hard to believe?

I mean if we're going to decide where we met...how about Ireland back in the days of the Celts...more believable for most people who know me. ;-))

Thanks, Shanachie. You’d also asked me, when we were discussing the tour, about ideas. I thought that was one thing that brought us together – was how much we’d talk about our projects and bounce ideas off one another. Sometimes talking (typing) it out with someone can really focus the brain to figure out what’s next.

(We could say we met at a coffee shop when you asked someone to figure out the tip for you? It’s more believable, since I’m someone who loves math and you’re much more grounded in English and literature.

Yes, most people who know me will believe that one...*sigh* math and I do not get along!)

About those ideas, I always found them to be an individual thing. So many writers follow a muse and have ideas that come from somewhere, not sure anyone really knows where. However, you can take the same idea and sit down any number of people and each will take that idea and twist it in a different way. I tell you to write about a pair of shoes, for example, and you pick a pair of strappy sandals while I had in mind a pair of army boots. Each of us uses that idea in a story, and we’re talking about very different things. I think that’s what makes us individual writers. I know it’s what makes my stories unique. I hope that answered your question!

It does and I agree...sometimes I look at a prompt or I give a prompt for my contest and I'm amazed at the different ideas that people come up with, even people that I think have minds that follow along the way mine do...so every writer has their own ideas and their own way of viewing the world.

Ransom has a pretty good grasp of the way a tween has to deal with the stress of trying to balance school, family, and the pressures of growing up. Please check out her book and make sure to leave a comment, remember you could win a free copy!

And now a brief look at the book. You can order it at: The Art of Science

Later this week...I'll have a special post introducing a very good friend of mine! Ransom Noble will be stopping by to promote her book, The Art of Science! I'm not entirely sure how it's going to work yet, but check back on Friday. And if you have any questions or whatever that you want to ask her...leave them here and I'll see about getting her to answer them! Please be sure to keep your questions confined to writing and publishing. And if you'd like to check out the book on amazon before I post the actual blog entry: The Art of Science

If you post a question here, Ransom and I will do the best to answer it in the post on Friday introducing the book. But make sure to check back on Friday when I'll have a summary of the book and an excerpt!

Okay and how ironic is that considering my favorite character was Chevov as a child?

Okay before y'all freak out...I am not unfriending everyone because I'm mad at anyone. I just need to cut down on all of the duplicates I'm getting on the other journal. So you can still keep me as a friend, but what I am hoping is that I will not get your postings on this journal in addition to on the other one.

If you're wondering what the deciding factor was...mostly people that I know through fic or met through fic I've moved to the other journal. Friends or family are staying here.

Now if you want to friend me on the other journal, you are welcome to...the name is [personal profile] shanachie_quill but please understand if you are friended here, I am not going to friend you back.

*hugs* Love y'all!

And in the realm of how weird is that AKA fandoms colliding--Scott Bakula is on Chuck tonight as is Adam Baldwin (well Adam is a star)--Quantum Leap meets Firefly meets Enterprise anyone?

[Error: unknown template qotd]Rather than inflict on you my actual earworm (Superfreak people and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy). I'll give you the last song playing on my iPod.

I searched for a video, but couldn't find one with CK...but since CK and Jensen are best buds, I figure Supernatural works just as well. So get THIS stuck in your head! And just cuz I'm an overachiever today--two videos and the lyrics.

House Rules by Kane featuring Christian Kane (seriously how do they do this? Is it Kane or is it Chris Kane or is it Christian Kane?)

When I tried to do a cut--it deleted my entire entry so yeah sorry about this.

House Rules by Christian Kane

So you’re tired and beat
And you’ve worked all week
And you need a place you can let it go.
Where the girls go wild
And the boys play hard
And you need a little more than just the radio.
Well here’s your open invitation
With just a couple regulations.
Let me warn you son, only come to have fun
We don’t take kindly to serious.
So leave your troubles at the door
Unless you want some in here.

Welcome to my house, buckle up tight
Everybody sings and drinks, laughs & gets high.
It's a country music, a little soul, it’s a rock 'n roll rodeo.
We don’t tolerate no sitting around
Everybody’s dancin’, groovin’ and getting on down.
So before you come in here with some kind of attitude
You better read the house rules.

Around eleven o’clock when the front door locks
And the boys start raising the bottle.
Where the girls do the thing with the Mardis Gras beads
Yeah, You know they’re gonna show 'em if they got ’em.
No matter what your story, a good time is mandatory.
Well rule number 7 says don’t touch the women
But they can grab whatever they want to.

Welcome to my house, buckle up tight
Everybody sings and drinks, laughs & gets high.
It's a country music, a little soul, it’s a rock' n roll rodeo.
We don’t tolerate no sitting around
Everybody’s dancing,’ groovin’ and getting on down.
So before you come in here with some kind of attitude
You better read the house rules.

No such thing as last call.
We pick’ em up when they fall .
We share the same bathroom stall,
Says the sign on the wall. (1, 2, 3)

Welcome to my house, buckle up tight
Everybody sings and drinks, laughs & gets high.
It's a country music, a little soul, it’s a rock n roll rodeo.
We don’t tolerate no sitting around
Everybody’s dancin’, groovin’ and getting on down.
So before you come in here with some kind of attitude
Boy, before you come a walkin' in here with any kind of attitude
You better read the house rules.

You better read the house rules.

[Error: unknown template qotd]I do. I donate through work to a variety of child-friendly organizations, whatever is being supported at that moment (d'oh I'm a teacher).

But I give my major time and money to Soldiers' Angels--quick and dirty--it's a group that supports US active duty soldiers that are currently serving; mostly overseas. I'm an official Angel to one soldier and an unofficial to four more--I send letters (TLCs) and packages and just generally try to keep their spirits up. In addition I belong to Cards Plus team which means that when I can I send extra TLC cards and I did belong to the WTLC team which meant I wrote to soldiers that have been wounded and have been sent home.

Why do I do it?
For a couple of reasons,
1) it's hard to be away from home--even if you chose it and not get any mail and watch your buddies get mail. The majority of our soldiers either get very little or no mail and this way they get at least one letter a week or a whole batch when their mail catches up to them.
2) I might not support the war, but I give major credit to the men and women who decided to put their lives on the line to protect us. So this is a way I can help them.
3) Most of you know I come from a military family. I'm pretty lucky this time--no one who is active duty is currently overseas (although if this keeps up at least 1 if not 2 of them will be headed over) so this is kinda my way of giving back for being grateful. Besides if they were overseas, I hope that someone would do the same for them.

So I guess that's it. We're always looking for new Angels--so follow the link and join us!

Song Meme

Go to your music player (iPod, mp3 player, or just your music library on your computer) and hit shuffle or Shuffle all songs...and then write down the first 25 that come up. (obviously you don't HAVE to listen to every song...just skip ahead)

...AND DON'T LIE. THE FUN PART IS THAT YOU HAVE STUPID SONGS THERE. WHO CARES?

So I did it three times cuz I'm silly and I was procrastinating...and yeah...I didn't want to do what I was supposed to be doing.

So I got to thinking this week (I know scary thought) and I realized that my writing is kinda taking over my journal--partially just for lack of having somewhere else to post some of it. I've also been batting around the idea of doing some commentary on a couple of the shows I watch.

So with that in mind, I created a secondary journal: Shanachie's Quill which will be hosting anything writing and fanfic related. I moved/copied a bunch of stuff over to there already...although I need to make some changes/fixes and I still need to make it pretty, but it is active. I will be posting all writing related stuff in there from now on.

So go ahead and friend that if ya wanna keep up. And now I'm gonna go do...I dunno what.

shanachie13: (leverage gang)

Over the past few years, cable channel TNT has become known for drama. With a mix of re-runs and original television, they are beginning to give regular channels a run for the money. But last December, with the advent of their new Robin Hood-esque series Leverage, they really raised the bar.

With tag-lines like
"Sometimes bad guys make the best good guys."
and
"We provide...leverage."

and the whining beat of Duffy's "Mercy" backing the commercials, they amped up an ad campaign that really made viewers sit up and notice. Eye catching graphics and a stunning cast rounded out the reason to catch the show.

I have some bad news. When I got home from work today, I discovered that Jordana lay down to take a nap and apparently died in her sleep. I have no idea why she died, but she is gone.

She is loved, she is missed.

One: People who have been tagged write their answers on their blog and replace any question that they dislike with a new, original question.

Two: Tag eight some people. Don't tag who tagged you.

I'm not going to tag anyone, but if you want to play, I'd happily read your answers.

[livejournal.com profile] trulybloom and I noticed that with all the bouncing back and forth with names...none of us had picked anyone from Leverage so we both agreed to do one for Eliot. I solemnly swear I have not read her entry (if she's completed it) so any similarities are purely coincidental.

1. Do you like this character?

I do. He's fun. He's sarcastic. He doesn't use guns, but can beat the shit out of people (politely!). He wields a knife very well! (Yeah, I like a well-used knife).

2. What name/s do you call this character?
Eliot...honestly, I don't really see him as a nick-name type of guy. He's very up front. I might refer to him as a cowboy, but I don't think I'd call him that.

3. What image-color do you associate with this character?
Gray. That's the way he sees the world. Life isn't black and white to him. It's shades of gray. He's spent more time on the wrong side of the law than the right, but he knows what the right side is and he's got his own set of moral and legal codes and he doesn't break them. And he feels it when people he "trusts" breaks them. Image--a knife. Definitely a knife.

4. What image-song do you associate with this character?
This is hard...because I'm temped to say "Different Kind of Knight" which is always the first song I associate with him. (And yes, I realize it's one of Chris's songs). So I'll say that is his theme song. But for fighting...something hard, pounding, rough beat...but not heavy metal or true country. For seduction...slow and sweet, something he can use to truly seduce the woman. He may sleep with woman, but he will seduce if he has the time and patience I believe. I don't have anything specific in mind though.

5. What blood-type do you think this character is?
AB, rare unusual. Prickly.

6. What character do you like to put this character with?
Hardison. The two of them together are hysterical and they are fun to play off. Sophie is also fun. Honestly all of the team is fun to play with. And my friend Daren's description of Parker is spot on!

7. What would you want to say to this character?
Thanks for becoming a good guy. (Although honestly I think it was there all along. Think about it. A truly bad guy...wouldn't have continued with the team or kept going with all the issues.) Deep down I think Eliot was just looking for an excuse to stay on the "right side" of the law.

8. Which do you want to do with this character: Shake hands, hug, or kiss?
Shake hands. Think about it...would you do anything else to this guy without permission? Honestly he's so closed in, I'd let him make the first move.

9. Please choose 6 friends with your choice of character.
I've done enough of these (I think 3 is my limit). So if ya want someone...I'll swing one your way...but I've done enough! I may do this for a few of my original characters though...I am having fun with these!
shanachie13: (naughty school boy)
[livejournal.com profile] trulybloom bounced back with Evan Lorne when I asked her if she was gonna give me someone after I gave her McGee.

1. Do you like this character?
Yup, I sure do! More than the regulars on the show!

2. What name/s do you call this character?
Evan, Ev, Lorne before I knew his first name.

3. What image-color do you associate with this character?
Blue! to match his eyes (yeah that sounded really high school, but it's true). Image...flying, military, strength. He always seems calm even in chaos so something peaceful and serene.

4. What image-song do you associate with this character?
Bruce Springsteen--Born in the USA
No idea why, but I've often thought of this song with him. Other things from that time period, classic rock.

5. What blood-type do you think this character is?
O most likely because then he can help more.

6. What character do you like to put this character with?
Honestly, I like to let him play with OCs. Once in a while I'll use Weir or Sheppard, but I prefer to play with my team that I created (MacFadden, Wall, and Murray--the Marines and Deke) and also his girlfriend/wife Aiden. They are just so much fun.

7. What would you want to say to this character?
Pretty much the same thing I say with my SA (www.soldiersangels.org) group. "Thank you for your service to our country. You're a brave man. Thank you for everything you've done. Thank you for the sacrifices you've made." I think I'd even try to get him signed up for our group or at least give him the site (if he were real--I'm not that crazy y'all...I realize he's a character on a defunct TV show).

8. Which do you want to do with this character: Shake hands, hug, or kiss?
Shake hands. I always do if I get the chance with military people. :-) Just like at the airport this weekend.

9. Please choose 6 friends with your choice of character.
Just like last time...hit me if ya wanna try this!
shanachie13: (soldier boy)
[livejournal.com profile] angelskuuipo gave me Colby Granger

1. Do you like this character?
Absolutely. This is the type of guy you'd like to meet and eventually bring home to mom. Home grown goodness and apple pie. :-)

2. What name/s do you call this character?
Cole, Colby, Burn

3. What image-color do you associate with this character?
Army green, blue; his FBI badge

4. What image-song do you associate with this character?
Honky-tonk music, country; something sweet when he's romancing the girl; Travis Tritt

5. What blood-type do you think this character is?
A, bleeds Patriotic most likely

6. What character do you like to put this character with?
I like to write him with David as his best friend and play with Tim King and also my OC Jo who is his sister

7. What would you want to say to this character?
Thank you for your service and your undercover work. Thank you for being willing to risk your life to make our world a better place.

8. Which do you want to do with this character: Shake hands, hug, or kiss?
Hug and Kiss--absolutely Have ya seen the man?

9. Please choose 6 friends with your choice of character.
Tag me and let me know if ya want a character.
